This first quarter of 2019 has been very busy for the chapter. Chapter members were involved in a variety of activities in support of airmen and the Air Force mission all across our area. I

In January, we reached out to our mission partners about the awards banquet. See page 3 of this issue for more details on this great event. February brought back our opportunity to speak to the GaylorNCO Academy classes. I shared information on what AFA is and what we do here in the Alamo Chapter. I also had the pleasure of handing out distinguished graduate awards at the Rogers Airman Leadership School and the NCOA. March started off with us joining two other organizations to serve lunch to wounded warriors and their families at the Warrior Family Support Center on March 16. Thanks to those who donated time and/or food.

Next was our awards banquet on March 19. I then got to speak on March 26 to the AFROTC cadets at Det 840, Texas State University, and present an award to Cadet Ana Gonzalez. I rounded out the month by presenting DG awards to seven ALS graduates and finally by awarding scholarship vouchers to the winning all-service CyberPatriot team during the Mayor’s CyberCup Luncheon. We wish them well when they compete at the national competition in Baltimore coming up. The team was one of three from Roosevelt High School who were recognized for their excellent performance during the year.

At our March meeting, we decided to change up the format for our monthly meetings. Beginning in April, the first 30 minutes will include a presentation on a topic that is relevant to our membership followed by Q&A. We will then move into the executive session to talk about upcoming activities and make any decisions. Of course, all are welcome to stay for the executive session as well. The goal of this new format is to get more members to join us and to find out those areas we need to focus our advocacy efforts on.

The remainder of 2019 promises to be just as fruitful as this first quarter. We have our Fiesta medals still for sale, NCOA and ALS graduations, CCAF graduation, and we are also hosting the summer Texoma Region convention here in San Antonio. Details will be out in email soon. Join us for comradery and see what other chapters are doing.
